Parent Memo: February 26, 2021

PRINCIPAL’S CORNER:

We are happy to congratulate this week’s Shout-Out students:

Ainslee Wolters – gr 6 – who took time during class to help a fellow student with their math homework. We are proud of Ainslie’s initiative to be the patient friend her classmate needed.

Charlie Horne – gr 7 – who helped another student who tripped and fell at recess. Charlie was very careful to maintain a safe (Covid) distance, but he made sure his friend was okay to keep playing and never left his side. We appreciate that Charlie showed his support for his classmate.

Brynna Koorsen and Kaitlin Martin – gr 4 – both displayed great kindness to classmates in coaching them on how to properly execute a PE activity that was causing the classmates difficulty.

In Service,

Ms. Laura

TRIMESTER ENDED

Please note that Trimester 2 ended yesterday. Gradelink will be offline from March 1st until March 5th for teachers to complete report cards. Report cards will be ready for viewing at 3:00 pm on March 5th. Paper copies will not be sent home.

SPRING BOOK FAIR

The Spring Book Fair starts next week from March 1st – 5th. All students will visit the fair and kids will complete “wish lists” so parents can send money to school with the student for purchase. Students will be coming home with informational flyers. This is the final book fair of the year, so please take advantage of this. Proceeds that we get from the book fair go directly back into our library program and allow us to purchase new books and resources for the children.

NORTH CAROLINA HISTORY PROJECT WINNERS

The 8th graders showcased their North Carolina History Projects this week and were judged by an independent entity. We were pleased with the quality and depth of all of the projects and congratulate the 8th graders for their hard work and research. The first-place winners below will go on to compete in the NC state tournament which will be held virtually this year in April. Great job to all of our students.

1st place: Molly Barbour and Reagan Grambusch

2nd place: Anna Milewicz and Ellie Grace Poulos

3rd place: Sophia White

Honorable Mentions: Carlo Valencia, Patrick Leal and Michael Malone

Pictures of the students and their projects will be featured in the school yearbook.

RE-ENROLLMENT FOR 2021-2022 SCHOOL YEAR NOW OPEN

Re-enrollment packets were sent home previously with the children.  Please follow instructions in packet to save a place for your child for next year. If you are adding in a new child, indicate that on the form, and this will facilitate the application process for that child. We are currently carrying waiting lists in almost all of our classes, so we will need to respond to those prospective parents once we reserve spaces for our returning families.  Deadline to respond if you are returning or not is MARCH 5th.

LENTEN ALMSGIVING

As our Lenten outreach, we will be collecting diapers and baby wipes for Catholic Charities. We have done this outreach before, and it has been much appreciated by Catholic Charities and served many mothers in need. Students can bring in packs of diapers and baby wipes to their classes. Teachers will collect them and make sure they get to their destination. If you prefer to send in a $5 donation instead of (or in addition to) the products, this is always appreciated and will be used to purchase additional diapers and wipes. (see flyer attached to end of newsletter)

OPERATION RICE BOWL

Operation Rice Bowl is a donation drive that has been carried out in Catholic parishes and schools for years during Lent. It will begin soon in our parish and school. Donations to Rice Bowl help the hungry, both in our local community and beyond. 25% of the donations to Rice Bowl stay in our own community, and there is certainly a need during this time. Please use the link to donate to Rice Bowl online or see the flyer attached below about how to donate using the QR code. Thank you for your prayerful donation during the Lenten season.
